Zora Neale Hurtson Proclamation

"All Our Skinfolk Ain't Our Kinfolk"

'All My Skinfolk Ain’t Kinfolk' is a quote popularized by American Descendent of Slavery, anthropologist, folklorist and author Zora Neale Hurtson. From a biblical perspective, one may appreciate how well the saying is aligned with the Proverb 'A tree is known by its fruits;’ meaning the quality of a tree is known by the quality of the fruits borne by the tree. This literally means that the tree should not be judged by its appearance, but by the fruit which is generated by it.

The ADOS DMV Region created this page in honor of our wise ancestor as a cautionary reminder of the perils of identity politics. “Blackness is not the single qualifier;" works and deeds must be assessed before aligning with anyone for any purpose, especially politically.

We really want to get this one right. Our editors, have asked for more time to research the data links and sources. Please check back and STAY TUNED when this one drops!
